I wanted a dachshund because they are the greatest, most beautiful animals in the world. In October, 2007, I found a beautiful red dapple male miniature dachshund in a CKC registered litter. He was 2 months old and tiny. His little black nose, eyes, and tail just stole my heart and I had to have him right then and there. As soon as my son saw the puppy, that puppy became HIS. When my husband got home, he pronounced the puppy cute, and asked what his name was. Our son said, "Donald." Thus, the puppy's official name, "Morgan Says Donald" came into being. Donald was such a good dog, that we decided to go looking for a companion puppy.

Over the next month, my husband and I went to several local area kennels and websites looking for puppies and gathering information. At a fairly nearby kennel, my husband saw a female miniature dachshund, a fawn (isabella) longhair, who totally stole his heart. Unbeknownst to him, I began negotiating her purchase, because I could tell how much he adored her. From the moment he saw her, no other dachshund would do. They were still cute or funny or adorable, but just not "right" for us. About a week before Thanksgiving, I brought her home as his early Christmas present and nothing else I could have given him would have been as perfect. He named her "Donald's Belle of the Ball" and she is our dainty ruling princess even at her little 6 and 1/2 pound best.

Meanwhile, I'd been researching local kennels and visiting them all and talking online and on the phone with breeders all over the country. I was appalled by the conditions at some places and resolved to rescue dachshunds whenever I was able. Visiting all the local kennels and researching online as well, I was able to determine my own "Code of Ethics" as a breeder/rescuer. I was so in love with my own pups that I wanted to learn all I could and eventually let my babies breed and maybe even be shown. I decided to do it right and have healthy, well socialized pups from divergent bloodlines. Then a woman who'd run a local kennel for 35 years had to retire due to health issues. If she couldn't find a buyer fairly rapidly, she would have to sell to someone she didn't know or euthanize her babies. It was breaking her heart. She and I had met a few times, and she finally just offered her entire setup to me for a price I really couldn't refuse. She knew I would take care of her babies and keep her informed of their health and well-being.
I also rescue abandoned dogs and cats (rural areas are horrible for them) and placed them in new homes as soon as they were healthy and tamed. I have "yard dogs" in addition to my kennel stock. All of my animals are healthy happy and friendly. Visitors are always welcomed and you can choose the sire and dam of your “perfect puppy” from my babies.
